Robert Davis Wray

June 21, 1923 - August 20, 2013

WRAY, ROBERT DAVIS, of Rehoboth, MA was born in Joplin, Missouri on June 21, 1923 to father Robert C. Wray, U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1922 and mother Marian Davis of Rehoboth, MA. He lived as a child in Elyria, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. He attended the Allendale School in Lakeville, Illinois and graduated from Tilden Technical High School in Chicago in 1941. In March 1942 the family moved to the Davis Farm in Rehoboth. He was drafted into the Army and in November of 1943 went through the Panama Canal on a Grace Line freighter, serving in the Pacific in New Caledonia, Bougainville, Guadalcanal and the Philippines. During the war he was hospitalized in Guadalcanal. He held the rank of Technical Sergeant in an Ordnance Company until discharge in 1946. He graduated from Bryant College in 1948 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and worked at Harris & Gifford CPA's in Providence. In 1953 he joined the J. L. Anthony Company in the precious metals industry in Providence where he worked until retirement in 1987, serving the last ten years as General Manager and President of the company. He was happily married to Irma Pryor Wray from 1958 until her death in 2003. For many years he was active in the Rehoboth community, serving on the Planning Board and the Finance Committee, as a trustee of the Carpenter Museum and a member of the Antiquarian Society, and was active in Land Preservation. He was a member of the Rehoboth Congregational Church, a Past Master of the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge and a member of R.I. Shriners and Order of the Eastern Star. He was Past President of the Anawan Club, a Charter member of the Rehoboth Men's Club and a member of the Squantum Club, the 100 Club, and the Barrington YMCA.
